221 G Form for F-1 Visa, My Visa Interview

12 08 2008

221 G form for U.S. F-1 Visa, One of the most weird things to happen for anyone, I had my Visa Interview on morning of 6th December 2007, I had the documentation required with me, let me tell you people make a huge fuss and cry about visa interview they tell that you have to prepare for it, get some question and answers ready, its all foolish, the first thing is the questions are general questions based on you which you are supposed to know, you should know which university you have chosen and why, which should make some sense to the interviewer and also about the financial docs, you should try and explain what you know and there are some things which any ways you will not know like ur dads I.T. returns and all u shud just try and explain to the person that they are not supposed to be known by u, the second thing is your answers should be instinctive and true to the moment, rehearsed answers look really foolish stuff for questions about you, If have have a good way of speaking and convincing the person along with some average (not needed to be great or good) scores it should do fine, I had a GRE score of just under 1000 which is infact bad, but the percentage and other things and the way u speak shud do for one or two things which might not be the best in you.

Now getting back to my visa interview and the 221G, I went on to the lady who took my interview, she asked why F.I.U. and I explained why I wanted to work with power systems and the kind of research provided here, she said that what happened to your GRE everything else is so very good, my answer was It was just a bad day I did not do well although tried my best to, she later asked me that I have been working in Google what have I been working on and what was it……here come the main things about the visa interview never really give them an opportunity to think about some confidential things or something so abt ur profile… she later said that I cannot offer you a visa right away i need to do some more work and gave me a pink 221g form, when asked she said i neednt worry i ll get the visa and theyll inform me when will i have to submit my passport to the consulate for the visa stamping and asked me to keep checking the chennai.usconsulate.edu website, which they generally update every tuesday and thursday, to see my case number and status beside it….18 days after that my status came in as send passport and 15 days after i sent the passport i got the visa back to my home with stamping…in all it took a month………..so generally most of the ppl get visa after 221g form…if u dont submit complete docs during ur visa interview u ll get a white form to submit ur form later..they also use the pink form at times instead of white form but inform u abt incomplete docs and things u ll need to submit back….they also use blue form in which case they will only contact u by some means in this case ur case number isnt uploaded online and u cannot check the status……

Life at F.I.U. and life in the U.S. for F1 students

29 06 2008

This is my first blog and I like to talk about my experiences with the life in the U.S. it is applicable to students of any university in general, I hail from hyderabad and have had a great time till December 2007, while I was in India, I had just completed my undergraduation in May and started working with Google which was a great thing for a starter.

The Moment came in January 2008 when I left for Miami Florida when I came here for a Masters in Computer Sciences, all the information I had gathered before coming here was that, people here tell you that this isnt a good university, you do not get on campus jobs, there are no chances of getting funding, you will get screwed up, why u wanna leave google and come here. I also had admits from a better university in George Mason and a less expensive university in California State University Northridge, I was also told that the Electrical Department does not have any funds at all.

I landed here a week after my classes started, It was definitely tough to get around with things when u never know of any one here not just in F.I.U. but in whole of U.S., u have no ideas about this country at all, especially being a practising muslim when u dont have an idea about a mosque, about the halaal food and when u dont even know of any other muslim in the vicinity, but lemme tell u it all makes things better for u it tests u and gives u a great idea to see how much can u follow urself and principles u set, people were like getting off campus jobs is impossible, thanks to almighty I and my 2 frnds got em in a week after coming here, On campus was on in 3 weeks, people told Computer Sciences was the most difficult to pursue here especially when u are from an electrical background, Alhamdulillah I have a GPA which would prove that wrong, I was told by some people I knew that the university was a wrong selection by me, I figured by now that by gods grace it was the best, coz its not just ranking and rating but many other dimensions which decide it, I had one of my close freinds coming here in the same semester and that has been a great help more than I can tell here, coz here u are alone and dont know whom to trust when u find new ppl, and most of the people are really mean, not that they want to be but they are left with no other option. Ironical of them all would be that I got a Research Assistantship in Electrical Department from my second semester.

The summary of the whole blog would be most of the times the people portray wrong information, I know of many who tell the situation is bad just because they dont want to have competition and feel insecure of their position, So try to now people before u really take their advice and always take it as a suggestion and better not as an advice, If u can really put in the effort you will be able to achive things along with gods grace, after all I have said let me stress that every thing what people say is exactly right if you are one among those people, as they havent been able to find things because of the flaws they possess if you feel u are on the same boat then you cant succeed.
